How often should shock absorbers be replaced?
There's no single figure: it depends on the car, how it's used and the roads. It's best to check them at every service.
Do they have to be replaced in pairs?
Yes, both on the same axle are replaced so the car behaves the same on both sides.
Do shock absorbers affect the ITV?
Yes, suspension is one of the points on the ITV test. If yours is coming up, book a Pre-ITV check.
Where's the knock I hear over bumps coming from?
It could be a shock absorber, a drop link, a ball joint or a bush. We'll track it down and tell you what it is.
Does replacing shock absorbers improve braking?
Yes. With healthy shocks the wheel stays planted on the road and the car stops in a shorter distance.
